We have finished our SFD event in Kiel (Germany). We had three main talks:

  1. Linux-Einführung (Thilo Pfennig)
    (Lizenz: CC-BY-SA 3.0)
  2. Einführung in Verschlüsselung (Niclas Köser)
  3. OpenStreetMap (Steffen Voß)

We had about 20 attendees that actively participated in consuming the information. We could help many of them either understanding Linux and Open Source or with some minor problems. Also we had some good discussions about Linux in schools – and why it does not happen in larger scale and what schools will need. Some teachers also attended and gave some good input for future SFDs. I think doing an SFD in a school is a good thing, though a better preparation would be good and maybe a more direct involvement of the school itself, where the event takes place. This time no teacher who was active on the school was involved – only one teacher who had been working at this school and through her we got in contact.

We served some coffee and cookies. Throught the whole day 5 active organizers helped preparing the room and making this event quite successfull in regards to the more than suboptimal conditions (we couldnt really do marketing and I had to do most of the preparations myself). So it was a lot better than I feared it could end – but it did not meet my high expecations of 50 attendees. But I am satisfied – that we did it and to the overall outcome. My thanks go out to the school „Realschule im BZM“ and the headmaster Mr. Ruser, the caretakers who showed me how to cope with the burglar alarm,  all organizers, who all helped making this thing happen – and I would be happy to see you again next year, maybe. And next year we will do  better.

All love goes out to all those SFD events that are still running and I hope you do good!
